A Brush with Death X 3
All of the stories that I’m about to tell you where told to me in a period of one week. I will protect the names of my friends, but not my dad.
The
old lady in the road
My friend is biking over a crest of a hill at a high rate of speed. It is very early in the morning and it is dark. Two very old people are walking on the road with traffic (on the wrong side of the road). He hits the old lady. My friend and the old lady he hit were both seriously hurt. The old lady he hit was not very happy after the accident. And you know what unhappy old ladies do.
My Dad helps people. This time it was a neighbor’s garage door spring that needed adjusting. This is a very dangerous item in a house. One should never touch it unless you know what you are doing. My dad is an expert in garage door springs. He fixed it with no problem. He tested it with a big problem. While on the ladder next to the spring, he asked his neighbor to pull open the door a few inches. He did not hear the few inches, and pull the door up with all his strength. My dad was hit in the head with the garage door and landed in the hospital with a mild concussion.
My friend decides to cut down his tree. They want $1500 to do the job. He rents a chainsaw. Climbs the tree with a ladder. His wife holds the ladder. He does not have a life insurance policy on his head (at least not a large one). The branch he is cutting is very large, maybe 10 to 12 inches thick. The branch does not fall in the direction he is planning. It comes down on him and his wife. His wife is able to pull the chainsaw off his belly, which prevents it from burning a hole in his belly. He was knock out with a concussion (and broken ribs) and spent 2 days in intensive care.
Shit Happens!
