Weekend10207

There are (at least) 3 options for this weekend's mandatory long run. Be a hero and do more than one! Be there or be a Slacker!

A lot of late fall marathon activity. Terry and Julian and others are running NY in 2 weeks. Larry, Amy, Tim, and maybe others are running Memphis on Dec 1. They also have a half and 5K; let us know if you wanna go!

Theresa is running Tecumseh Trail Marathon in Indiana on Dec 1.

The Saturday Larry run:

 > Meet at Amy's house at 5:15 AM. 18 miler, route under development,  > likely a combination of road and trail. Be finished before most  > people have even had their first cup of coffee!

The Saturday Terry run (he has trouble waking up early):

 > Arboretum at 7 AM  - we will run a series of loops for 15 to 20 miles  > depending on who can survive the hills. I can provide free  > entry for 2 people by parking at the motel down the street and riding in  > with me.

The Sunday Theresa run (what time?):

> I am up for an 18 or 20 miler on Sunday.  I was going to run from the

 > parking lot [at the college] to Morton Arboretum, around the arboretum,

> then back. If the distance isn't long enough (haven't measured yet) I

> will include all or part of the Sunday run. [Editor's note: It's about

> 6.5

 > miles from the college to the Arboretum entrance]

Larry (from Steve Richey),

-- decided to go to Morris, IL and race tthe 9:00 AM Run the Beat 5K there in the middle of the 10/20 Sat. AM long run ...... if anyone wants to join in, let me know .... we're starting the run at 8:00 AM in Morris. I'm picking up 2 runners in Oswego at 7:15 AM, but have room for one more. Planning on brunch on the way back.

And, at 6:15 AM from my place (Eola) on Sunday 10/21 -- run on the IPP with the infamous Ray K, winner of over 80 (out of over 400) ultramarathons over the last 29 years ....

10/27 in the Chicago Lakefront 50/50, where I'll try the 50 mile option -- obviously a very flat course; hopefully the winds will be kind. Three weeks later is the JFK 50 Miler in MD, on 11/17 -- the nation's largest ultra (over 1,000 finishers in 2006), where I'm meeting running buddies from OH, GA, and SC. This course had 3 entirely different segments (~1/2 marathon on technical/hilly trails, then a marathon on flat IPP type surface, then finishes up with rolling street race to conclude the 50 miles). Then, on 12/1, I'll join one of these groups for recovery marathon (either Memphis, TN or Tecumseh near Bloomington, IN). The Rocky Racoon 100 is the first weekend in Feb, in TX (20 mile trail loop x 5) -- a good long run for kicking off training for Boston ....

After the 12/1 marathon I'll have time to get back to doing regular long runs around here ....... am thinking about doing back-to-back 20 milers on Fridays and Saturdays over the holidays -- gotta get over this juvenile desire to take a nap at the 70 mile mark of the 100 milers ....

Hopefully Julian won't embarrass Terry toooo much at NY .......

All in good fun -- keep runnin'.

Steve (who is jealous of those going to NY in 2 weeks)

Chuck Malm is doing a long run on Sunday morning around 10 AM from his house.  He is training for his sub 3 hour marathon at Grandma’s next year.
